30 Reece

Post by 7000grain »

The .30 Reece is a wildcat cartridge with limited published load data, but here’s the most reliable information available from shooting communities and historical references:
General Loading Parameters
• Parent Brass: .38 Special or .357 Magnum (trimmed and necked)
• Bullets: .308” diameter, typically 110–220 grains
• Primers: Small pistol or small rifle primers (depending on application)
Documented Loads
Subsonic Loads (Suppressed Use)
• Bullet: 190–220 gr cast or jacketed
• Powder: V V N-110 / 8.5 gr
• Velocity: ~1,000 fps
• Powder: Trail Boss / 4.2 gr (with 200 gr cast)
• Quiet plinking load
Supersonic Loads
1. 110–125 gr Bullets
• Powder: IMR 4198 / 16–18 gr
• Velocity: 1,800–2,000 fps
• Powder: 2400 / 13–15 gr
• Velocity: 1,500–1,700 fps
2. 150–190 gr Bullets
• Powder: H4895 / 22–24 gr
• Velocity: 1,600–1,800 fps
• Powder: Reloder 7 / 18–20 gr
• Velocity: 1,700–1,900 fps
3. 200+ gr Bullets
• Powder: Unique / 5–6 gr
• Velocity: 900–1,100 fps (low-recoil target)
Key Considerations
3. Pressure Management:
• Start 10% below max loads and work up.
• Case capacity is similar to .32-20 WCF but stronger .
2. Brass Prep:
• Formed by running .38 Special brass through a full-length sizing die .
• Trim to 1.15–1.20” (varies by chamber).
3. Twist Rate:
• Most barrels have 1:8”–1:10” twist for stabilizing heavy bullets .
4. Powder Selection:
• Fast to medium burn rates (N110, 4198, 2400) work best.
• Avoid slow powders (e.g., H4350) due to small case volume.
Recommendations
• For metallic silhouette shooting: 190 gr bullets with N110 or 4198.
• For suppressed use: 220 gr cast bullets with Trail Boss.
• Always verify COAL for your firearm (typically 1.55–1.65”).
Note: The .30 Reece lacks SAAMI specifications, so consult a gunsmith and prioritize published data from trusted wildcat sources like Handloader Magazine or Cartridges of the World.
