Breakfast (Lunch) with God 20250829

Post by Roby.evans »

Good Afternoon Friends,

Last week I made a controversial comment in our Bible Study Class regarding the Scripture James 3:8-10 NASB, But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way. The statement was this, “After 911 what did we as Christians say or think towards those responsible, were we being the embodiment of Christianity?” and the response was varied, but thought provoking, nonetheless. There were comments afterwards about how God had commanded the Israelites to enter lands and destroy ALL who lived there, and this on multiple occasions however, this is in the Old Testament and nowhere in the New Testament is there a command to do this. We are under a new covenant and a new dispensation, Jesus instead commanded us to LOVE ONE ANOTHER, not just those who look like us, talk like us, walk like us, or even worship like us.

My question to you, (and I for that matter), is what is in your heart? As a child born in the 60’s we were taught/indoctrinated American Pride 1st and best, and all others well….? When you look at someone, what do you see? Do you see their ethnicity, their social/economic status, sexual orientation, their race, or religion? What you do see, does it temper your response or reaction? Or do you see a person MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD? Do you treat them or speak to them as such? I am just as guilty, or maybe even more so than most as I was conditioned/trained to see a multitude of a variety of evil/bad guys behind every tree, and that my friends is a hard pattern to overcome, and I struggle daily in my walk. A delicate dance between safety/security and openness/welcoming “love your neighbor as yourself” is the continual conundrum I face.

Sometimes I think back to the movie Angel and the Bad Man with John Wayne and the family who took care of him, they we referred to and “Friends” and they showed the embodiment of “love your neighbor as yourself”. Now I know this is a movie and fiction but just imagine if we all could put into practice the command every day in our lives.

What if we, every CHRISTIAN in the world not just acted like Christians, but actually lived out, expressed Christ like love for our brother, every single day. Would it, could it hurt, yes, would we be taken advantage of, yes. Would it make a difference, YES, YES, YES. I urge everyone to make a decision for Christ and to commit to the life that He has commanded for all of us, all mankind = made in the image of God. It does not matter if you are black/white/brown/male/female/Asian/Middle Eastern/European/Native
American/African/Hindu/Muslim/Atheist/Conservative/Liberal, ect. It does not matter WE are all made in the image of GOD. We should be who God has instructed us to be and through prayer we can. I do believe this.

Father, I thank you for your guiding hand and Holy Spirts conviction. I ask for cleansing of our hearts and minds of the evil and un-Christlike thoughts and speech. Father, may we be who you command us to be, and may we sow the seeds that produce good fruits and lead others to your glory by our actions. It is in Christ name I ask. AMEN.
In His Service,
Philippians 4:13
