Breakfast with God 20240817

Post by Roby.evans »

Good Morning Friends,

Breakfast with God today revolves around a specific question, “Do you have emotion in your devotion”?

As I was having breakfast at our kitchen table and studying in Luke 18: 1-8, I happened to glance above the sliding glass door going out on our back deck and my eyes rested on a picture of a cowboy kneeling at a cross with his horse standing behind him we have hanging there titled, "Speaking to the Boss". I became remorseful and was utterly ashamed of myself for the benign prayer that I had just spoken to God over my breakfast, Oh Father, blah-blah-blah to the nourishment of my body blah, blah, blah…In His Name amen, from rote memorization with no emotion. I wondered how He must have felt hearing me recite this and expect Him to respond to it. I think not!

Jesus tells the parable of a widow lady in Luke 18 who was persistent in her pursuit of a judge to avenge her, but time and time again she was rebuked by the judge, yet she continued to make her case to see him and to have him hear her. Alas he relented due to her persistence. I ask, have you given up on prayer, have you given up praying for that son or daughter, father or mother, brother, or sister, etc., who has strayed from the Truth and the Light. Or have you persisted in your pleading to the Lord, continually, with emotion and dedication. Be like the lady in the parable. When Daniel was taken captive by the Babylonians you could just imagine the difficulties, he had to endure yet he continued to pray religiously three times a day, 9am, 3pm, and again at 6pm not out of a legalistic mandate but out of persistence for the Lord to deliver the captives (His People) from the hands of those who were oppressing them. Many times, throughout the bible the mandate or command if is issued; “To pray and to pray fervently” yet we fail to do so. Perhaps this is one reason so many of our prayers are going unanswered, I do not know but it seems entirely plausible.

While it is great to teach children to memorize prayers at mealtime and at bedtime, but we must also remember WHO we are speaking to, GOD Himself. The Boss. I beg you my friends to not take prayer lightly or flippantly toss a meaningless thank you to the Lord, but to fully immerse yourself into giving Him ALL glory and praise. I’m not saying that you must shed crocodile tears and get liver shivers when praying unless that’s how you’re made up, but to make your prayers ones the He will hear and know that you are speaking to Him. Take the time to take a knee and speak your heart to Him who made your heart and gave His Son so that you may one day come into His Holy of Holies, into His presence and know that He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

With a joyous heart and tear-stained bible I ask Him to hear my prayer and ask His forgiveness for vanilla prayers I have prayed as I dig deep into myself for the conviction of persistence and a renewal of dedication to intercessional prayer on the behalf of my friends, family, and even my enemies. In His Most Holy name I pray, AMEN.
In His Service,
Philippians 4:13
