Eric, your go-bag sounds like my wildland pack. My med bag attaches to wildland pack...main difference is that my pack has a fire shelter and an on-board 2 liter camelbak water reservoir. I use a Coaxsher FS-1 wildland pack.

We were at an archery competition years ago. My wife had her string backpack with water and snacks...l told her that the course started at bottom of ski hill. Then ride chair lift up and walk down. She reluctantly put her stuff in my pack. 5 hours later, she came back to camp. When asked about pack she said that once she got it adjusted to her (opposed to me) it was SOOO comfortable. She used it on two more rotations. She was able to use things in trauma bag, haul snacks, water and flagging tape (separate attached pouch) on her travels. Said she wanted one for herself. Well, Mothers Day came around, and behold...she got a pack...she gets made fun of on day hikes with scouts, but she can only go a couple miles now with bad ankle...so no overnights on desert...she has regular backpack for overnight campouts. I told her that thousands of wildland firefighters use theirs daily, and WORK in them...

I spent most of my career living out of a rucksack.

Pretty much same, rides on back a bit differently.
