26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

Ok Roby, here is my take on this one. Essentially warning against being worldly rich and eternally poor. Meaning don’t be an asshole on Earth or you will pay for it later.

Eric, yes, this one general way to interpret the passage. However, a deeper meaning of the remorse a man will have when he tries to buy his way out of eternal damnation and realizes that all his worldly possessions have no value. This also applies to nations as well. The Apostle Paul echoed this in his Letter to the Romans 2:5-8 and is quite specific.
