Good Morning Friends,
Imagine if you will that you are not a liked person because you are the despised Chief Tax Collector and somewhat vertically challenged in stature (short), but you hear Jesus of Nazareth is coming through your town of Jericho and one of Jesus followers is a man you know named Matthew (who was also a Tax Collector that used to reported to you from Galilee), and you had heard about this man Jesus that Matthew left his job to follow and wanted to know why he would give up a coveted position with power and wealth to follow Him. All the town folks, Rabbis, and important people are with Jesus walking down the dirt road and since you wanted to see Him you climbed a tree to get a glimpse of this Jesus of Nazareth that everyone is making such a fuss over. Jesus could have stayed anywhere He chose but when He saw you, He called you down and told you He was going to stay at your house…Let's stop right there a minute. I don’t know if Zaccheus was married or had kids, but I know if I called my wife and said I was on the way home with someone important and his friends and they were going to stay for dinner and the night there would be a reckoning for sure. Think back to those old movies and TV shows, (I’m thinking Lucy or Dick Van Dyke show here), where this would happen and the stress it caused, the wife, no make-up on, hair up in curlers frantically running through the house cleaning, kids screaming, burnt dinner, nosey neighbors etc. Could you imagine? But, while there Jesus blessed your house and all those in it by using a word that He only used one time in His entire earthly Ministry “Salvation”. Luke 19: 9-10 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham. For The Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. “NASB.
Metaphorically speaking your house (meaning you) does not need to be clean and tidy and everything in its place, if that was the case then Jesus would not need to come to your house now would He. We all have dirt in our houses (Sin) and the only way to have that dirt removed and forgiven is to be willing to allow Jesus into our house to cleanse us. He is the only way. The point I am getting at here is this, are you, and is your house prepared to receive Jesus into it? We should all be like Zaccheus and when the Lord calls out to us we should be willing to accept Him into our house and bask in the Salvation only He can grant. Imagine if you will, had Zaccheus refused or delayed His Message? Is Jesus wanting to come spend time and fellowship with you? Are you refusing Him or are you welcoming Him dirty house and all?
Father, our country and our world are in a state of turmoil today, blatant denial, indifference, disbelief, and heretical teachings are keeping many from inviting you into their homes and leading them to eternal damnation. Lord, I ask for the softening of their hearts to your Word and to your presence, I ask that they hear you knocking at their door and open it willingly thus welcoming you into their homes forever with no reservation. Father, I thank you for coming into my house and granting my house Salvation through the blood atonement of Jesus the Messiah on the cross for my sins. I pray that I will always be who you want me to be and do what you want me to do and that I may give you the praise and glory for all things. Father, I ask in Jesus' name. AMEN.
