Used a Garmin

Post by Shadowcat »

I’ve had the opportunity to use a buddies Garmin on several occasions over the past months and I have to say it’s quite an amazing little device. Little? It will fit in the back pocket of my jeans versus the carry case for the LabRadar, I’ve also been using. Setting it up takes seconds - choose the bullet type (Pistol or Rifle) bullet weight, open the little tripod and set it up pointed down range.

The LabRadar is quite a bit more cumbersome included getting it pointed at the target correctly. That said - it is a beautiful device that provides the information you need to tell if your reloads are within the correct parameters. Both devices are a great resource but I am saving my nickels for a Garmin. The price difference between the LabRadar and Garmin is at least 200 and closer to 300.

For a rookie reloader like myself a chronograph is really a must have device if for no other reason than peace of mind knowing my loads are safe.

I have one of the Caldwell’s Josh sent me and works really well for my needs as I am just a hunter/plinker/self defense type shooter. Don’t need to be too precise, but is a great help getting to factory ballistic speeds.

Kirk...
Roby, Steve and Jeremiah have chronographs loaned out to them through VRAP.
VRAP has 3 LabRadars, a Caldwell Precision and a MagnetoSpeed V3 chronograph.
When Steve gets his Garmin, Im will get the LabRadar sent back so I can use it... :P

I can send it back anytime, I won’t be able to use it until spring at this point plus I have some access to that Garmin which we have used on the indoor range where I can’t with the LabRadar

I’m not sure what you’re asking for Eric?

Do you have a link to the Garmin you used? I'd like to read about it.

So with this one it just sits next to the firearm? No ears to shoot through?
