MY FIRST LOVE

Post by SUPERTRAVIS »

My first deer rifle was unique and not one that I have seen many examples of other than mine. Most people I have met have never seen one at all if they even know what it is to begin with. Still today it is my favorite shooter period. Remington Mohawk 600 chambered in .308 It is a shorter barreled rifle and was perfect sized. It is also on the heavy side though and didn't have the recoil of other high powers I have fired over the years. But let me tell you when you touched off the gold trigger, fire shot out of that little rifle like a bonfire exploded and the boom would leave your ears ringing till at least age 42. It was often joked that when I took a shot at a deer it would kill it in its tracks and scare to death several others on neighboring clubs. If that was true, they had to pile up a bunch cause I would put one hanging in a tree real dadgum quick. Love me some deer steak boys.

My very good friend and mentor once told me, "Travis, You're just gonna have to lower your expectations." It was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. Then I tried it...

According to Remington’s records, approximately 97,594 Mohawk 600 rifles were produced in total between 1972 and 1979. The Mohawk 600 was offered in several calibers, including .308 Winchester.
While exact production numbers for each specific caliber are not provided in the given sources, we do have some relevant information about the .308 Winchester chambering:
1. For the original Remington Model 600 (the predecessor to the Mohawk 600), the .308 Winchester was the most common caliber, with 33,028 rifles produced.
2. The .308 Winchester chambering was actually introduced for the Model 600 in 1963, one year before the other calibers.
The Remington Mohawk 600 was offered in four calibers: .222 Remington, .243 Winchester, 6mm Remington, and .308 Winchester.
Given this information, we can infer that the .308 Winchester was likely one of the more popular calibers for the Mohawk 600 as well. However, without specific production numbers for the Mohawk 600 in .308 Winchester, it’s not possible to provide an exact figure. The total would be some portion of the approximately 97,594 Mohawk 600 rifles produced, but the precise number is not available from the given sources.
