Breakfast with God 20250404

Post by Roby.evans »

Good Morning Friends,

Question this morning, in regard to your prayer life are you lazy, are you weak, are you distracted? When you do decide to pray does Satan attack you with distractions of the mind and body? Do these things happen in your prayer time; the phone rings, or e-mail/text bing, do silly un-prayerful, un-productive thoughts ramble around in your mind, does the dog bark and kids fight? Do you get sleepy or suffer from anxiety while praying? No one wants to be accused of or guilty of these, but most are plagued by if not one but all of these. The finger points right back in the mirror at me too.

Romans 8:26-27 NKJV. Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

With that let me ask, are you praying in the spirit as listed in verse 26, are you leveraging His strength to counter your weakness? Without the Holy Spirit of God in you your prayers are worthless utterances as if you were praying to a golden calf or a piece of fruit. When I pray, I try to always utilize the following four P’s of prayer time:

Prepare=get my mind right with God
Prepare=get to my quiet place
Prepare=eliminate all distractions
Prepare=open my mind to what is the Holy Spirit guiding me to pray about

Now I am a firm believer that when we do pray we are to speak to the Father just as a loving child would speak, with deep love and humble respect and not to be verbose in our application for intercession with a bunch of Shakespearian flowery sonnets and grandiose prose but express yourself more like Opie may have spoken to Andy in a heartfelt conversation. There are times when we pray that there is only a “groaning” that we can utter, when we are hurting inside so deeply that “Oh God” is all we can manage, and this happens to us all. He hears and understands our deep hurt and knows this is all we can say, and I do believe this is sometimes just enough. He knows our hearts.

Friends, I am s strong proponent of intercessional prayer, and I ask that we all look deeply into our prayer life and just as someone once said to me, “Don’t just stand there, Pray something.” Our world is in a dark place today and in need of our prayers, our Pastors are especially in need our prayers more than ever as they battle not only Satan but sin in the congregations, many have given up their fight because of weakness or Satan’s attacks have become too much for them to bear. Pray for the strengthening of their hearts and their spiritual walk, and that they may know the Holy Spirit is powerful enough to defeat any foe with the asking.
