7mm mag, 300 H&H mag, 308 Norma mag

Post by mike2565 »

Had to add 3 to my big game faves.

I bought the 7mm Sako Finnbear when I was 14. Took a long time to pay it off. I didn't get to carry it until I owned it. My great uncle kept a little piece of paper rolled around the end of the barrel and he would tally up my payments until I could hunt with it.

That same great uncle left the Winchester 70 Supergrade in 300H&H to me when he passed away. He and a buddy bought two of those rifles when they returned from WW2. They had consecutive serial numbers. I used to struggle to compete with my uncle and that rifle but somehow that old rifle and old man would usually come out on top at the range. I carried that rifle many years, always feeling like if I left it home it was like leaving him home. It put food on our families tables for over 80 years.

After finally deciding to let the 300 H&H rest, I built the 308 Norma Mag. It is built on a Sako action and has proved to be a laser. It's a little heavy but I took it out for the first time climbing up and down the ridges of WV and took a small buck with it last season. I sent it out for color during the PA season and broke out the 7mm for the first time in a long time. Took a real nice buck on the first day.

Should bring to ldaho and go after elk and moose (and any wolf you see).
I am a wolf. I will confront the sheepdog and eat the flock. ~Blackfire 2009~
